After VOSA got involved all LR Discoovery 3 & 4, Range Rover sport have been recalled from 2005 to 2013.
They will inspect your detachable quick release towball and supplement. And will either replace the rear cross member or fit a heavy duty multi height towbar.
Trouble is i chucked mine away a few years ago and fitted a witter fixed bar lol. Still they want it in and if deemed to be unfit on the rear crossmember, towball fitting work will be done to it.
Detachable and towbars/towballs is still something that makes me think twice, especially when you get someone that doesnt know how to hitch up properly and who may not have read all the info on fitting it to the car and locking it.
Not a detachable towbar
I have recovered one outfit where the van came off, First thoughts were the van came off and someone crashed into the back of the car, but after chatting to the guy it seems the damaged to teh car had happened weeks ago and because they had their holiday booked and the car still drove OK they decided to get it repaired after.
The accident was quite bad and the towbar/towball must have taken quite a battering, The ball itself was stll attached to the hitch and the other half attached to the car.
Makes you think twice buying a car with a towbar already fitted.
Hi, I recently brought a tow car with a detachable tow bar already fitted, which seemed to have play in when assembled, luckily I live not too far from makers TOW TRUST TOW BARS so went to see them they told me it was one of their early models but should be ok. however they offered to convert it to fixed bar for £27 which is what I had them do for me, they were very helpful I now have peace of mind, even though cars appearance is not as neat. could not relax with what was an half inch diameter pin and locking pin holding onto caravan.
