Why is it a pain to buy tyres for a caravan?

Phoned a few places today and some were good, some were hopeless.
175x13 tyres, Probably less demand for these now but several of the major chains do not list them on their websites.

Choose 175 and its 14" upwards only. Halfords website would not let me add anything to the basket without a reg number, National were the same 14"+ only.

I phoned one guy today and he said we can get them in within a few hours but could not tell me the tyre load rating.

I have visions of getting there and finding them about to fit a pair of 65 rating car tyres, where i need double that.

One offered the MaxMilers are these any good now? premature failures all sorted?

Your tyres are the same as mine but I didn't have any problem when I bought a pair two months ago from Mr. Tyre Ltd. I told them the tyres were for a single axle caravan which I was given quotes for budget, mid range and Hankook's which I finally settled for at £120 for the two, fully fitted including balancing.

have a look on MY TYRE.COM web site. you can check load rating and find a local tyre fitter to fit them for you

Camskill's is a mail order only website.

Give them a try??

Click on the 'Van Tyres' tab on the left of their page, it then drops another box to choose your rim size, then go from there.

I used them when I got my van tyres.

Even after adding the cost of having them fitted at a garage, it was still cheaper than any garage supplying AND fitting.

I got quoted £100 for a pair of maxmiler 8 ply.

As my vans under 1200kg max, and generally we run fairly light also, they will be well below their max spec.

I enquired about the Hankook ones and they said none were showing on their search.

Was that off the Camskill website Grampian??

As I saw they didn't list the Hankooks that we bought off them anymore.

a lot can get confused on tyres.

As long as they 8 ply rating or above, commercial van tyres will do the same job if you can get them in the size you want.

Car tyres are no good at all.

Nah it was a local tyre place. He was chatting as i assume the prices were coming up on his screen. He initially said its coming up at £60 but wait a bit because he should be able to do better than that.

Then came up with the MaxiMilers for £50 each.

He said the Maxi's were 8 ply but not sure on the load rating.

Anyone got any reviews of Nankang 8ply Commercial tyres?

Not something i would fit to a car, but they are a 97 load rating, which is a major overkill for my sub 1200kg van.

A couple of local places said they were good, Only 1 had them in stock. Anything from a few days to a week to get them in.

The place i phoned about the Maxmilers have now said they are not coming up when they search?

Oddly i searched the Nankanga and they came up on the MyTyres website, But if i search for that size they do not appear?

OK i got the Namkamgs today, 97 load rating so way over my requirements.

2 tyres £86 all fitted and balanced, chatting to the fitter and he said he would not dream of not balancing them.

Only time will tell i guess.

Must make sure that i fit my winter tyres when putting the wheel clamp on.

The clamp put a dent in the sidewall, I didnt trust the tyre after spotting that.
Must not be lazy and fit the winter storage tyres.
