Have you done the Cris check to see if its been stolen or written off or whether it still has finance on it?

If not then its worth doing, unless your buying from a larger dealer.

yup I agree. I wouldn't ever buy a caravan without doing a check. Only problem you have with check is if its been stolen very recently it will not show up, the owners may not even know its gone, so be very careful.
If its a private sale make sure your buying from a residential address and not a storage yard and I would be cautious of someone willing to meet you half way at some car park.

I'm about to buy from a small local dealer(I've put the deposit down). He says its Cris registered and I assume he'll have the documents and we can fill in the paperwork together. Do you think its worth me doing a cris check, I'd definitely register immediately, and I know where he lives. So I do not want to spend the £15 needlessly, then spend it again to register. I was going to do the check but the website says it will only confirm the sellers address not tell you it. Well I only know the dealers address not the previous owners, so I can't really confirm that bit.

have a read at this https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/22440/thinking%20of%20buying%20a%20second_hand%20caravan.pdf

Cris will only confirm the last registered owner, this might not even be the current owner as registering a caravan in your name is optional.
When i bought my first caravan from a private sale i had an HPI check done on it. Im not sure if HPI still offer this service for caravans

ask the dealer to see the registration documents and take a note of the address of the previous owner, but as i said it could have had many owners since the last name on the registration documents

Hmm.. Well I did one just to be sure, not very exciting. All it said was No Security watch recorded, no finance recorded. So I guess its clear. Sort of expected a bit more data to be honest. Feel like I've wasted 14.99 I suppose I wouldn't feel like that if something showed up mind you. You'd think they dress it up a bit for for £15. Oh well I'll put it down to due diligance, I'd feel pretty stupid If I'd bought it and it had been nicked.
