Can't stand seeing that blue face any longer.

I seem to recall that C & C C did a review a few months back, I'll see if I can find it. Think it was favourable.

Got it - June 2004 issue of the Club mag.

"Boy can this thing tow. In fact, the Hyundai Terracan is so adept, we're using it as one half of the outfit in our generic publicity campaign, during which we'll be offering journalists from across the media spectrum the opportunity to try their hand at towing and caravanning.

We signed up the big 4 x 4 after a two up test during which it never put a foot wrong: it offers reassurance in spades - an attribute that's close to the hearts of all caravanners, but which will be especially welcomed by the journalists taking their first tentative steps.

If you want a Terracan there's no need to pour over a brochure trying to decide what trim level is best. There's only the one model; the 2.9 CRTD common rail turbo diesel."

It "is stuffed with goodies, inc. climate control, ABS, alloys, front foglights, and roof rails with bars...not to mentionan unbeatable 5 year unlimited mileage warranty that you can pass on to the next owner if you sell."

But "the interior...which is plain, sombre & dragged down by seriously unpleasant plastic 'wood' detailing on the facia & doors"

"Dials & switches are clear & easy to use" except "the radio/CD player - they're irritatingly tiny"

"The 148 bhp diesel engine is strong & willing, making for swift, cross-country progress while towing - most of it in top gear.

The 5 gear ratios are well chosen, although the change isn't the sweetest. A 4 speed automatic is another £900 - worth a thought, given the poor performance of the manual.

Although the ride was a bit niggly at times and the steering slightly imprecise, stability while towing was total - and a controlled emergency stop was made safely & quickly."

Fingers getting tired, there's loads more but overall verdict: "Imprecise gearchange & uninspiring interior are letdowns but....imperious towing ability, fine economy & 4 wheel drive capability."

Hope this helps. Say if you want any more of it. I'd quite like one myself from the sound of it if I had £18k to spare.

BTW, 85% match is a hefty 1,832 kgs (max tow limit 2,800 Kgs)

hi pinkfloyd.

we went in the other day to enquire about the terracan but was told by the dealer that with the terracan the only reason to buy one would be if you were doing alot of off road stuff with it. he also said that it wouldnt be worth buying if you were just going to tow with it, it feels heavy on the wheel if in 4x4 mode and it eats up the fuel so isnt very economical.

We are getting a hyundai Trajet as it can tow upto a 28cwt caravan. but we only have a 19.1 at the moment but are hoping to get a bigger van soon as well.

I have a getz at the mo which i love and wouldnt change. but maybe have a look at the other ones they have like the sante fe or the touson.

Hi , I'vr got one and love it to bits, and it does tow exceptionally well. Mine was bought especially for towing a 1500kg German battleship [caravan]. It actually as a lot pleasanter to live with than most cars, the dealer should know that u use 4wheel drive only when conditions insist : ie : wet campsites are a gift with this terracan. On main roads/ Motorways u are always in 2wheel drive High. The terracan has an Limited slip differential, he should know that , hence in just 2 wheel drive [rear] with 13K on the clock the BF goodrich tyres are like new. Don't listen to dealers who haven't a clue what their supposed to know backwards!!!!

Some very strange dealers around, I once went to a Volkswagen dealer with an enquiry about trading in the BMW I had for a new Golf, he told me I should just keep the BMW and put a private number plate on it, guess he had already made his maximum bonus for the month!

I wonder if in your case, he gets a better bonus on other models?

Having owned 2 new Hyundais I can tell you that fuel consumptsion is not their star quality. Spares and repairs tend to be pricey too. But worst of all, when you come to sell it or trade it in, even with a Hyundai dealer, you will be offered a pittance!
