Hi all,

Would appreciate some advice. We are looking at taking up caravanning and doing loads of research into the van we would like to purchase. I am slightly confused by what I can tow though. I'm not concerned for myself as have a C+E license although haven't towed a big rig since passing the test (long story). However we would like to share the driving and the missus doesn't have B+E.

I'm struggling to find a van with the layout we like, 4 berth with fixed double bed and a MTPLM which would be a good match.

Would appreciate it if someone could have a look over my car specs and offer some advice.

BMW 320d 2014 touring auto M Sport

Mass in Service from V5 - 1585kg

From VIN plate:
2105kg
3780kg
1 - 915kg
2 - 1230kg

I would like to try and stay as close to an 85% match if possible so if I understand correctly I would be looking at a van with an MTPLM of around 1350kg which is well within the 3780-2105 of 1675 and with a car max of 2105 comes in at 3455kg which would mean the wife can tow it on her B license.

Do I have all this correct?

We are contemplating a Bailey Orion 430 or a new Elddis Xplore 504, how would these combinations work out for a novice?

Cheers in advance

Yes your weights are correct so go ahead with your caravan of choice. Caravan Club do towing courses if you feel you need that.

As long as both do not go over 3500 kg you will be ok, 7500 for you

Thanks for the reassurances.

Now to find a deal on a caravan and getting out and about a lot more with the kids and hounds.
