Had a 2008 abbey freestyle 540 delivered to our seasonal pitch a year ago as we only have a small picasso. Owner is selling up so decided to go back to touring the MTPLM weight says 1456 so checked on some websites and unless i buy a jcb most cars are too small anyone any suggestions? Am i doing it wrong? Cant afford new but for a single axle van does seem heavy for towing. Thanks in advance for any help

Mk3 Mondeo tdci will tow that safely and comfortably and it will fall within the B licence possibilities. I towed a 1450kg hymer with mine fir 7 years. If you have a licence before 1997 then the Mondeo mk4 will also do the job exceedingly well.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Thanks all, yep have old licence so will look into those tried the 85% thing and needed a car weighing 1700 plus looks like with all trying to save fuel economy etc they are making lighter cars nowadays, as well as the completely baffling amount of websites on the subject made my head spin
Before I used seasonal pitch we had a sorento and loved it but not the fuel guzzling when just using as family car all year round
Thanks again
