The 2.2 cdti will easily tow your van , we until fairly recently had an 09 plate 2.2 cdti and towed a 1500kg lunar without any issues .
Went to Spain every winter for 5 years on the trot and the honda proved to be totally reliable .
We now have a 14 plate d-tec which is also an good tug although we have now moved to a motorhome

My last car was a CRV. That weight of van will not be noticed on the back of your car.

I tow my Bailey Burgundy with a 2.2 '09 CRV and it's great, absolutely solid as a rock, much more stable than with the Honda Accord estate with an identical engine. So reliable too.

Had an 07 plate CR-V for eight years and just got rid of it last month in favour of a Skoda superb. Had the Cr-v remapped and it towed well, caravan was 1380 MPTLM. As with Japanese very reliable, however I found the Superb is more stable towing and tows like a dream.

I have a 14plate CRV and we love it, with a caravan of that weight you should hardly notice that you are towing powerwise, we also get around 36mpg towing, we have just towed back from Norfolk, a distance of around 168miles using duel carriageways and A class roads, and used less than a third of a tank of Diesel.
If l had to pick a fault, it would be the lack of incabin storage compaired to our old Civic, and what storage there is, is poorly designed, the door bins are too shallow to take a mapbook, theres no coin pocket or ashtray to use as one, the glove box is so small internally that once you put the cars instruction and service wallet in it, theres no room for very little else, the big central armrest lifts to give a tiny space that even a satnav struggles to
Have enough space to be stored in there.
The older models may be different to this, but it was a bit of a disapointment to us once we took delivery, we just assumed that a bigger car would automatically mean better storage space within.

I was in a Honda car and bike dealership yesterday. A salesman from the car side came over in the car park and offered to buy our 57 plate 100,000 miler off us there and then.
They can't keep up with the demand for 2nd hand ones, even at that age and mileage.
We said no - just bought a new bike!
