Men in white coats and daily tablet springs to mind, for anyone daft enough to buy one, unless they have very deep pockets to keep it on the road

Bob this is for advice purposes as i've put the car on a weigh bridge.

As for deep pockets well you just can't put a price on your families well being, personally i prefer to keep my family safe when going on holiday thats why i always choose a towcar that's significantly heavier than my caravan, I'm pretty certain most parents are like that.

not only is the car mega heavy it even does 70+ mpg and is mega low on company car tax.

As ever its personnel preference, I am a ford man but have friends and family who are vauxhall people and they have had insignias for fair while now with no more or less problems than any other car.

I took an Insignia Sri ecoflex out for test drive and its lovely car certainly pushed my decision on that or a mondeo all they way.

Is SB back off his holls?
Does he ever get tired of the "every one should own a Skoda and never get an Insignia" chant?.

Quite an interesting thread this as i've just checked my handbook for our 2009 Insignia Sports Tourer 2.0CDTI SRI (130BHP) & it states the kerbweight without any optional equipment as 1730kg. Yet i've checked the Caravan Club outfit matching service & according to that the kerbweight is 1635kg (Albeit for a similar model but the same engine)

So.... what figures are we to go off???

The figures on the weight plate fixed to the car.
It is that plate that a Vehicle Inspector from the Police or VDSA will use.

Because it would cost more in replacing the VW badge than a Skoda one 17

Ped8 that's why I always weight the car so I know what I'm working with, I'd expect the estate to be around 20 kgs heavier than the saloon

You need to have another look!!
The weight plate on your car has 4 weights on it:
Mass in service
Max Gross Train Weight
Front axle max weight
Rear axle max weight.

I think you may need to have another look at the first weight

It is not Mass in Service it is the MAM or Maximum Authorised Mass ie the Maximum weight the car and all it is carrying can weigh legally.

My last vehicle had a kerb weight of 2160kg

The first two figures on the weight plate were
2880kg MAM
6380kg Max Train Weight

The vehicles kerb is with fuel and driver, by putting extra loading in the car does not increase its kerb weight to warrant towing a caravan which may be to heavy for its true kerb weight.
