Does anyone know if you can recode a Volvo V70 trailer module to a different Volvo V70?
I have taken the genuine Volvo towbar from my 2012 model V70 and thought I would be able to fit it to the 2016 model I have on order. Volvo are saying that I need a new towbar (£735) as the bumper shape has changed on post 2014 models.
The fixed towbar is the same for both years.
I know that my towbar will fit the chassis and will be happy if I can get it fitted and left permanently fitted (rather thans removeable)
Whilst I would prefer to have my old one recoded, if I have to replace the TRM, it is not the end of the world, but I really can’t afford the £375 just for the new towbar particularly if, as I suspect, I can get away with the old one.
According to this towbar manufacturer the towbars are identical from 2007 onwards in all the fitments of fixed flange, swan neck and detachable so this would be confirmation that you could remove the towbar from the 2012 V70 and fit it to a 2016 model. Although the towbar will exchangeable you will most likely have to the electronics downloaded which will be dedicated to that specific vehicle.
All the third party manufacturers seem to say this and, as I said the Volvo fixed bar is the same, but the removable one is different from Volvo.
I would love to know what the difference is. Volvo have been unable to tell me, nor have Thule/Brink who make them. They just told me to speak to Volvo. I can only assume it is something to do with th bumper profile.
