According to the Italian motoring media, the new models Octavia,Superb and Fabia do not have the EA189 engine as supplied in the USA.
The older models could have had it but modified to comply with EU regulations.
They are quoting Josef Balaz , the official spokesman for Skoda Auto
Having acquired a 2 litre Octavia fairly recently I was staring to panic.
Why panic? It worked before and will work in the future.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
It is not the working of the engine, it is change in excise banding on road tax.
If the range of under reporting is from 4 times to 28 times (for the Audi 8 series), then, at bare minimum, our road tax will rise from £20 to £550 per annum

Road tax is based on CO2 emissions the emissions that VAG have been manipulating is Nitrous oxide and doesn't affect road tax in the UK.

Road tax bindings are set for a particular vehicle at the time of first registration. Your car will remain the same. VW might find that they have to pay a hefty fine for each car they have manipulated the figures for the summ of £24000 per car has been bandied about, a nice little earner for the government.

Without doubt this is disgraceful and whoever at VW came up with the idea of faking tests should be severely punished, but I feel sorry for all the innocent people who will be affected.
The husband of a friend works at a VW dealership. The salesmen at this company don't expect to sell a VW this side of Christmas . . . and after that, who knows? For the guys whose earnings are commission based, this will impact them severely. Don't get me wrong, I think what has been done is utterly disgraceful but I do wonder how many 'invisible' victims there will be.
The Nox emissions from the VW engines will be no more than the other popular European diesels, 1.6 & 2 litre as fitted to Ford, Cit/Peugeot etc. No cars with these engines are sold in the US, presumably because Nox emissions could not meet US standard which is considerably lower than European. Nissan & Kia do not sell diesels in the US either.
Merc & BMW both sell diesels in US so it will be interesting to see how they get on.
As I understand it they switch off the emissions control when the car is not doing an emissions test in the lab. This has the effect of improving the fuel consumption.
The manufacturers will have to reprogramme the ECUs so emission control is on all the time, This will make the fuel consumption worse than the manufacturers claimed when they sold the cars and as CO2 emissions are calculated based on fuel consumption, tax bands may change.
I wonder if the owners will be able to sue VW for misleading customers.
Basically, when you or the tester revs the engine, it has a safety mechanism fitted to stop it going over 3000 revs, as soon as the hand break is off and 1st is selected it will red line, with the clutch in, the reason being it stops anyone from over revving and blowing the engine when stationary
Its not an issue for Europe, only for the US where VW have decided to cheat to be able to sell their diesels there. Other manufacturers, Ford, Kia, etc do not attempt to sell their European diesels in the US because they could not meet US Nox emission standards. Theres nothing wrong with the VW diesel in Europe, its no worse than any other.
This thing about Nox emissions has been going on for some while now & if Europe brings Nox emissions down to US standards then things will change as far as diesel goes in Europe.
If one looks at the US websites of Volvo & Merc etc one can see the type of large turbo petrols that have already been developed.

But think of the bargains to be had when they start to drum up the business to flog cars again!
