Hi all,
We are due to collect our new 2015 (65 plate) insignia sports tourer 2.0 cdti SRI Auto, iun a week or two nad will be having a tow bar fitted. Question is.
Does anyone know if cooling mods are needed to the front grills etc to allow more cooling to the engine and gearbox.
I have read previous models/versions did, but nobody will collaborate this and towbar fitters spoken too are are a bit vague about it also. VX would not say either way when asked. Its not an ordered fit tow bar either (too expensive).
Monitor the temperatures when towing, If they start getting a bit high then you will need to create additional cooling. Extra radiator or opening vents.
Addin an addition radiator to auto boxes was a common thing back on the 80's.
We tow with an Insignia 2.0 the 130bhp version and have no cooling mods.
Coped OK with a trip from the new forest the return trip should have lasted about 3.5 hours but was more like 5.5 (thanks M25 and the Dartford Tunnel).
i had a jeep and the cooling mods were referred to in the hand book. i think though this only applied to the automatic transmission versions. the additional cooling was for the AT fluid.
I tow with the 2012 version in Auto no probs.
Just be aware that your van tail lights may not work with the rear hatch open. its a peculiarity with the rear lights that are positioned inside the hatch on the tourer. Ask you tow bar fitter.
------------- Just saying
If all is not lost where is it then?
