You need to check 12n plug on end of cable that plugs into car, sounds like you have bad earth, interior of plug could be a mess, wet & corroded. They are only a few quid, fit a new one, I would.
This assumes your car socket is ok because they can corrode inside as well. I'd check car socket first if you can on another trailer or lightboard & if ok then you know problem is with caravan.
