could you recommend a automatic towcar to tow a folding camper weighing 800kg

Skoda Octavia. The DSG is a great 'box, currently on my second one, although haven't towed with them. But I wouldn't think 800kg would be a problem.

It depends on what sort of car you need the rest of the time and how many seats you need. Most auto cars would probably tow 800kg but you'll get some idea from Parkers website which gives a lot of car specs. It also depends on your budget.

ok thanks for that.the reason i ask is because the wife can only drive auto.we have had a renault megane 1.9 deisil auto for the past 8 years.we have had it from new and the gearbox went at 104000 miles.we only tow the camper in the uk once a year so i was a bit p**sed off.

Just about all small/med size modern cars have dsg auto boxes so probably less reliable over high mileages than the old type torque converter autos that are not used now due to poor fuel efficiency. Luck of the draw really, all modern cars are much of a muchness. To pull your camper go for something like a 1.6 diesel or larger.
