Well we have the new car and sorry to see the Antara go.
just looking to get a tow bar fitted, however i have come across some uncertainty.
Our insignia is a Sports Tourer 2015 65 plate 2.0 ltr cdti SRI 170 hp Auto. model, all good.
When looking at the array of towbars available and different manufactures, some say in the instruction/fitting manuals that some blanking plates have to be removed from the front grill for extra cooling, whilst others do not.
I have also contacted PF Jones in Manchester, whom have never removed blanking plates from insignia's when fitting towbars. obviously got so used to doing it do they do not look at the fitting instructions !!
Therefore my question is this, Of all of you that may well tow with an insignia, have you had extra cooling fitted or had the blanking plates removed from inside the front grill area??
As surely the vehicle should cope with towing upto its limit (1600 kgs) and we are know where near this with our van.
Any help or conversation regarding this matter would be most appreciated.
just so you know. PF jones £350.00 fitted, swaneck with dedicated 7pin electrics.
They stuffed up the electrics on my last BMW which cost £1200.00 to put right, they wouldn`t respond to phone calls, and when I did eventually get a response it consisted of "it can`t have been us, we do loads". I wanted to see them in court, but as it was a Company car which had already spent 12 days off the road, it was decided to put it down to experience rather than spend yet more time claiming.
I didn't have any blanking plates removed from mine, Its automatic, never had any sign of needing extra cooling.
Only slight surprise with mine was that the rear lights on the van went off when the tailgate was opened on the car??? something to do with the extra rear lights inside the rear which come on when the hatch is opened, this seems to cut the power to the towing electrics. It doesn't cause too much problems, just amazed that the people fitting the tow bar, Vauxhall technical and Vauxhall dealership were all a bit surprised by this.
------------- Just saying
If all is not lost where is it then?
Your ecu was not remapped or wrongly remapped after wiring harness was changed or modified for extra load on electrics.
needs to be informed of extra load or something will shut down.
on some vehicles flashers dont work when hooked up all down to programming and sometimes extra relay.
I have seen front and van flashers work but not car tail flashers but all work when van unplugged.
most prob this not legal ???
Try JY auto electrics in Haslingden, they did my new mondeo woth no problems. It was cheaper to have the relay box fitted instead of the official loom. They are mobile and do a lot for main dealers.
Hi
I have had a sports tourer for 2 years towed 1400kg and took the van from Luton to Normandy twice and numerous times to poole. Never had a bit of trouble. Great car great for towing.

Hi sproz mine is the new shape and I'm looking for a detachable, how much did you pay j y for your bar I was quoted £388 from p f Jones for a Witter detachable and £411 from indespension
My car is due for delivery on the 23rd of Dec so no chance this year but need it sorting in Jan in Jan, also how are you finding the new shape ?? I've ordered the titanium with the x pack bigger wheels and panoramic roof
Bessie500,sorry I forgot about the new new shape, mine is the previous model, a colleague has the new tit x and he loves it. Mine is a fantastic tower, very very stable, the detachable was around 400quid.
Hi Spoz i currently have a 2011 mondeo and your right they do make a brilliant tow car, i've been towing a 1560kg coachman for the last 6 months with mine, prior to that i towed a 1500kg coachman all with no problems and a fully laden car
i was like that i turned down plenty of good cars for the mondeo though, You cant buy a Mondeo titanium x straight off the shelf now you have to buy the titainuim and then buy a x pack that cost 2k as an optional extra
will let you know if its any good once it gets here
Just a thought when deciding on which bar....my local towbar fitter placed an axle stand at the towbar position to see if the sensors picked it up, they did so a detachable was bought.
