Hi all
Please accept my apologies in advance if this is a very basic towing question, but I'm very new to it.
We have a camping trailer (Brenderup 1150s) towed by a Honda CRV. We are considering moving house, but the driveway of the house slopes up to the garage at an angle of around 1 in 4. The drive levels off at the top so it's flat in front of the garage. The pavement at the bottom is also flat.
When the car comes off the bottom of the drive, the car would be on the flat road, but the trailer would be still on the slope of the drive.
Can a tow bar cope with this up / down angle of movement okay?
Thanks
From past experience with launching boats from numerous slipways around the country which were all angles and shapes, we never had a problem with the towbar on any vehicles we had. The only concern I would have is of any part of the unit catching on the ground in different sections of the drive. Have someone watch you as you drive up, hopefully everything will be fine.
Your most likely problem if there is one would be jockey wheel grounding, so if your trailer has one then remove it before backing up or coming off drive & you should be ok.
Thanks all for the advice, food for thought. I think we're erring on giving the house a miss as going from a future proof bungalow to a house with a steep drive just for the few years the kids are growing up seems daft!
Convert the loft to give more bedrooms. Ideal layout and not expensive.
I think the worst on the drive will be does the slope to flat have a very sharp angle. My son has a drive which slopes down to the house. Every time I park on it the Mondeo grounded as I went over the top. You should be OK in a CRV but if you change your car.....
The change of angle is not too bad, my wife's car is a Prius which is very low on ground clearance. We tried that on his drive yesterday on a 2nd viewing and it went on without anything rubbing.
Good idea re the loft, sadly the total height in there is 7 ft, so with a new floor in there too low. Would have to have a huge box dormer right up to the ridge, and we're end on to the road so can't hide that at the back. We'd have to do a roof lift (which actually might cost no more than moving!!)
