Saw this thread and thought I'd give my two pence worth.
I tow with a Nissan Terrano fitted with a ball and pin hitch (Bradley V352L) . One slight difference is that my ball and pin is a single piece which is removeable rather than the ball and pin separate. I tow a trailer daily with a Bradley hitch as well as a caravan with a new Alko stabiliser hitch. I fitted the pin and ball to give me a rear tow rope connection point via the pin because the Terrano uses the rear tow points for the towbar.
I was concerned about compatability of the ball/pin with the caravan Alko hitch so I did some micrometer measurements on both the ball & pin fitting versus the Alko extended neck fitting. Ball height is correct.
The limiting factor with articulation is when the neck under the ball contacts the edge of the hitch. The measurements of the ball & pin fitting are virtually identical with the Alko ball and they stop in exactly the same place on full articulation.
As an engineer, I can see no difference in towing with my ball/pin fitting or an Alko towball. The pin has a 3500Kg rating and the ball a 200Kg noseweight rating although I would never tow anything near those weights.
