Have bought a van with the new 13 pin plug attached, but only have the black 7 pin 12n socket on my car !(haven't used the 12s plug on old van for years) would the adapter with the 2 x 12n/12s trailing leads work ok, if just used on the 12n car socket ? would be grateful for any advice.

To connect 13pin plug to just a 12n socket all you need is this adaptor. you can buy them from Halfords.

Ensure you get correct adaptor, you need 13pin plug to 7pin socket, not 'tother way around.

I have an old caravan with the 7 pin socket on the caravan end. Just bought a new-to-me tow car, and have to have a tow bar fitted. I only need a single one, No grey on the caravan, but I don't think they fit the 7-pin anymore - can anyone confirm this, and which adaptor I will need? Thanks.

You can get your car fitted with single 12n electrics when tow bar fitted. This will then accept your 12n caravan plug. Hope this helps.

If you already have the tow bar, it depends on what socket is fitted to your car & which adapter you require.

If you are buying car new with dealer fitted towbar they may only offer 13pin with choice of 7pins live for trailer or extra loom for full caravan wiring but outside towbar fitter should still fit single 7pin 12n even with specific loom.

If you want to plug 7pin caravan into 13pin car then you need single adaptor, this.

You may wish to have the 13 pin fitted then you are well covered if you change the caravan. The adaptor opensauce posted will work very well.

I have the 13 pin car socket and keep the adaptor plugged into it all the time. It means I can tow the trailer, boat trailer and dandy just by plugging straight in as all 3 have 12n 7 pin sockets.

But, I've just ordered a new caravan so will also be covered.

Thanks guys! :)

Cor, the price for a Witter towbar is expensive on that site, coffe58! It's quoting over £400, the local chap is quoting me £210.

I can thoroughly recommend the V70. I have the D5 and it pulls my 1650 Kg caravan with no effort.

Yes seems a good heavy solid car! Think the Police use them. Didn't really want a large 4x4, just an estate capable of pulling a heavyish van.
