I'm thinking of using our Mokka as a towcar and as I can't find any threads on the Mokka and its towing abilities I thought I'd ask if anybody has any experience I could draw on.

Any thoughts anyone?

Rob

Www.whattowcar.com should give you some idea of the performance you can expect from your Mokka when matched with any caravan you may have in mind. It provides star ratings and lots of other useful information.

Thanks Julia. It all seems ok on paper but I haven't seen many on camp sites so I was looking for some first hand experiences to convince me that I'm doing the right thing. I'm always frightened of making an expensive mistake that I can't afford to rectify so I am overcautious with any decision regarding spending lots of money.

Thanks again for replying.

Rob

What ever you choose, dont allow any salesman to convince you that it will superbly tow upto its limits as stated in the sales specifications. They are test lab conditions, and nothing like the reality of the open road.

This is where some expensive mistakes can be made, and after Honda droped there 2.2 diesel infavour of a 1.6 engine, they are now desparately trying to buy back newish 2.2 CRVs to feed the market need amoungst Caravanners and other hitched up motorists who clearly have a need for that extra power under the bonnet, some having listened to the salestalk and made the expensive 1.6 mistake already.

Retiredjohn, thanks for your comments. I'm going to be towing around 1300kg so hopefully that'll be ok, it's well within the limits and the car feels like it will cope without any fuss.

Julia, that doesn't surprise me and I expect Nissan are having a similar problem as the X Trail is only a 1.6 now. A few years ago the rally fields were full of CRV and X Trail diesels so it will be interesting to see what people buy to replace them. I agree with your feelings about salesmen, they seem to know very little about what they're selling, I know manufacturers change the specs fairly frequently but I do expect the sales people to give me the correct information when I am committing myself to a big purchase.

Thanks again for all your help folks.

Rob

It's ok Philip, it's a 1.6 diesel.

The people who bought early 1.7 diesels saw a max tow of 1400 kg or in the brochures etc but when they had their cars delivered they were plated for 1200
kg, Vauxhall said that the figure they published earlier was only a provisional figure. That wasn't much help to many people who had bought them.

We have a Mokka with the new 1.6 diesel engine, its great solo but we dont tow with it, its not as torquey low down as my old Sportage which we use. i wouldnt buy one to tow anywere near its 1500kg limit. If thats the size and shape of car you want then why not look at the Ssangyong Korrando, it tows 2 ton.We are going to look for one next.
