I don't know much if anything about your car, but I would also change the fuel filter first and I'd be tempted to fill the fuel chamber with Forté injector cleaner while I was at it. Check to see if this is acceptable on your car first.

As for hard to start, again my first thoughts would be to change or check the glow plugs.

Its been cold lately any water in the filter will have frozen

do not use injector cleaner in diesel injectors as it will block the injector nozzles. the cleaner does not atomise small enough to get thru nozzles like the diesel can. got a mate in the injector and fuel pump repair trade. trade is booming with the introduction of bio fuels. some fuel manufacturers mix animal fat in the diesel and call it bio fuels and this is what is clogging filters

thanks all, what's a leakoff test?will get the car home from garage, and change the fuel filter.never had any problems starting it,always first turn.was travelling at just over 60 on motorway when heard little dunk, and it just cut out, thought it was timing belt at first, but all ok there.

just out of interest, how easy is it to change the high pressure pump that fits on side of engine?does it need programming to my car,or just straight swap?

it wasn't me,honestly

modern diesels are complex so if you don't know what you are doing don't touch as you can do more damage than good.

Injector cleaners could only clog with the crud that they clean out and as our 5% bio fuel also cleans out crud, I don't think that would be a problem.

Injector cleaners can contain wood alcohol, xylene, naphtha etc. My concern would be whether they would burn too hot for high pressure injector tips and why I suggested that the op contacted the manufacturer.

When i worked for Hyundai we used forte products in all service work. I use it in all the cars I've had both diesel and petrol. Never had any problems with it at all.

firstly it may not be £400 to test them but probably to remove / install with testing plus New sealing washers for when they refit them .
Also yes it is possible for all 4 injectors to fail which could have been due to contaminated fuel that was put in a few weeks/ months ago which has caused internal corrosion in the system.
Do we know the quality of the fuel we are putting in our cars       no we don't as we can't see it.
let's just say it needs to be diagnosed correctly but this could be the first step.
33 years in the trade ,trust me I know as I am dealing with this every day.

Had the same problem with my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe . After fitting new high pressure pump no difference !!!
Fitted new injectors ...car runs & starts perfectly.
Obtained remanufactured injectors from Gap Injectors...http://www.gapdieselsolutions.co.uk/
They charge £12 per injector for testing & if you require remanufactured injectors they credit the charge of the new injectors!! Bought 4 x Remanufactured Injectors £408.00       (includes collection & delivery)
Please note I have no connection with Gap Injectors other than being a highly satisfied customer!!
