Has anyone towed a caravan with the new 2016 Honda 1.6 diesel CRV manual or auto. I now tow with a Honda 2.2 CRV and no problem .The Honda dealers say it will but up till now I can not find any reviews on line.Any information would be helpful.

Engine braking effect has nothing to do with lower friction, but is basically the wheels turning the engine against its own compression. Thus a smaller engine will naturally have less engine braking. It will also have something to do with tickover speed.
I agree compression is one part of engine breaking but there is an awful lot of friction in an engine from bearings and piston rings, cam shafts etc. Just try turning one, it is not all compression.
My 1.6 definitely feels much freer to turn. I wonder if they have better lubricated surfaces.
