Hi All,
We bought a 2003 Bailey Ranger about 18 months ago and have always been able to fully lower the stabiliser handle.
I have just replaced the friction pads in the towing head (and adjusted the shims according to the instructions) and now the handle will barely go past 45 degrees.
The alko instructions say to close with one hand only and "simply press the stabiliser handle down as far as it will go"
It now feels like its not closing enough or is that just because its never been right?
You should of noted the position of the shims while removing the pads one at a time if you did note this then just refit in the same order and should be no problem.
often there is only a shim on one pad confusing people.
Also check shims are not stuck (Rusted) in position.when changing pads there should be no need to reset the shims if it was working correctly before hand.
Are the pads catching in the housing a light rub around the edge of the pad with wet/dry and a light lube on the pad shaft helps.
I have shimmed the pads according to the instructions, on the old ones there were 2 shims either side.
I've followed the instructions and altered the shims to get the indicator arrows just at the start of the wear indicators where the arms start to feel resistance. Ended up with the shims set as they were (2 shims either side).
If I remove a shim each side, the arrows sit in the middle of the wear indicators but I can 'close' the handle - but surely this won't stabilise properly? :-/
