Hi there fellow caravanners
Could somebody help me please.
We have just bought a Bailey pageant majestic cd caravan with we believe a weight of 924kg although the info on Internet says 824 kg. Our family car is a Nissan Almera E, which has a kerb weight of 160 kg (according to Internet figures). Someone has put doubt in our mind that our car will tow the caravan.....could somebody please help us with the right info and if we can tow it.
Thank you
Sue
More information is needed.
Year of caravan manufacture
MPTL weight on caravan plate usually near door
Year and engine size of car and whether Manual or Auto
Hi birdman 101
The car is a 2000 (x reg), 1.5 nissan almera, manual with a kerb weight of 1260kg (previous typo eek).
Caravan is 1992 with an mtpl of 1148 kg.
Hope this is the correct information 😊
Saloon or hatchback? There are changes in the Almera in 2000 so is it the early or late version. There should be information in the car handbook regarding weights and towing, also check the weight plate on the car. The recommendation for a novice is that the caravan should be less than 85% of the kerb weight of the car unless the max tow limit of the car is lower.
It's a hatchback. ....I've checked the handbook but can't find anything about weights :/ I'll have another look but help would really be appreciated 😊😊
It looks like the 1.5E hatchback model from 2000 to 2002 has a max tow of 1000 kg so your car is unsuitable. Your car is not very powerful, 88bhp, so would not be very easy to tow with, you need more power and a diesel would be a lot nicer to tow with as it has more torque at low engine speeds.

You do need a rethink as that outfit would be illegal. Do you have another car in the family that you could tow with?
Rob
Not illegal if the caravan is loaded with almost nothing as the MIRO/empty weight is likely to be under 1000
Certainly not practical
