Hi All
Can anyone give me the best route from Airdrie to Sutton on Sea towing a caravan and travelling through the night?

Many Thanks

Wendy and Wul.

This seems like a start

Just make sure you have slept before though as caravans & tiredness can make a mess. CC do a route planner available for non members.

Caravan Club route try it

They both seem the same to me.
Hope this helps.

The caravan club route is pretty much as good as you will get---however there are 2 lots of night closures on the A1 ---1st lot at GATESHEAD and again between SCOTCH CORNER and LEEMING. You can miss these by joining the A19 at the north side of Newcastle--follow south through tyne tunnel (£3.50 I think?)-through Teeside and re-join A1M near Thirsk. The detours for both these closures are not good should you want to try them! Both closures are on for a few months yet. Good luck.

I would use M6, A66 to get across from west to east. Unless it's very windy! The A66 really catches the wind. The Scotch Corner to Leeming Bar section of the A1 is an average 50 mph section through road works. The lanes get a little narrow in places but the trucks manage it OK, and at night there won't be all that many about. I would have a stop at Wetherby services before the last part of the journey. (easier access than Ferrybridge or services at Junction of M18 and M180) The CC club route shows leaving M180 at A18 which is the way I go over to the coast. It is then mainly single carriageway down to Sutton but reasonable roads.
Have a good holiday.
David

Rush how about M180, A180, A16 down to Ulceby cross then straight in via Alford.

Re rush 768 comment..the A66 brings you out at scotch corner just at the start of the roadworks which will probably be closed at 8pm.

Hi everyone
Firstly we would like to thank everyone for the valuable information you all gave us regarding the best routes-much appreciated . I think we are going to go the M6 A66 route and check nearer the time for roadworks etc.
Our intention is to stay at Sutton on Sea for up to a week then head further down south to Cromer. We were originally thinking Great Yarmouth but decided on Cromer for a base then go on day trips to other places.
I will probably be posting asking for recommendations for that area too .
Many thanks again

We've just come back today, from North Wales to Northumberland.

Looking at where (roughly) you're coming from and going to, and you're wanting to travel overnight...

I would have suggested M6 down to the M62 to cross over, and pick up your journey once on the east side of the country...

As stated, there's road works / night closures on the A1 at Gateshead, then again at the Leeming Bar / Scotch Corner area.

A small plus with travelling over night (sometimes), is the weather can be a lot calmer too....

After reading your message I can highly recommend Willowcroft caravan site at Repps with Bastwick. On river Thurne near Potter Heigham, not too far from Cromer, Gt Yarmouth, Norwich and the Broads. Give them a call
