Hello

I currently have a 4 berth single axle bailey champaign and tow with an 05 reg ford galaxy 1.9 tdi and never had any problems and tows the van well

I'm looking at getting a twin axle possibly or something similar to an elldis crusader super scirocco

Would the galaxy be ok as a towcar for a van this size as don't really want to change the car as we have our other car for daily use

Number of axles is irrelevant. It is the mass of the trailer that matters.

Check out what tow car website. Enter your car and proposed caravan to get an accurate answer.

It's possible depending on your choice of van. We tow a Bailey twin axle with an Audi A4 but the van is light for a twin at only 1606

Have a look at the MTPLM of the Bailey Champagne and see how it compares to the Elddis Crusader. As 'Jesscar' (above post) has said that it's the mass of the trailer weight that is important, how many axles is totally irrelevant to the match.

We tow a Lunar Delta TI, MTPLM 1670, but increased to 1800 - fairly meaningless as we tow it at about 1700kg (according to weighbridge). With a 2014 Honda CRV manual, 2.2 diesel, 150bhp, kerbweight 1653 to 1753kg as handbook - fairly meaningless as the loaded car weighs 1900 to 2000kg (according to loading and weighbridge).
The caravan tows very well, its over the (fairly meaningless 85% guideline) but we do tow carefully. Speed around 50 to 55mph and less downhill.
We deliberately carry as much heavy stuff as possible in the car, spare wheel, tools etc.
In summary, make sure your car has at least 150bhp, be careful of weights/masses and drive carefully.

You dont state which year scirocco or which model and year of galaxy so it is difficult to advise acurateley.
I tow a twin axle (1800kg) with a Kia Sorento (2033kg & 197bhp)and it is a good match, but in windy conditions consider it to be at its limit. The Scirocco is heavier and the Galaxy is lighter than my units so I wouldn't advise such a match.

You don't say what year the Crusader you're considering is, but having had 4 Crusaders over the years, they're usually around 1800kg MPTLM.

I would reckon your Galaxy's KW is significantly lower, so it's a no no.

And by the way, ignore Bubble's 'waffle'. The relevant weights are all available and precise, it's all really very simple. The people who try to complicate things are invariably doing so because they're trying to justify an incompatible outfit.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!
