I've had a VW Touran for just over 12 months and i'm about to get rid due to various problems.
ESP failure (common problem), Electrical issues, Turbo overboost (common problem).
Maybe I just got a lemon, but I won't be going near VW/Audi group cars again.
So, my advice is don't buy a Touran - my friend has a 2.5l petrol S-Max and it tows very well.

The 2.0 diesel C4GP has a decent towing limit, it is only the 1.6 version that has a very low limit, especially if it has the EGS gearbox.

Useful info Rob, thanks that was exactly what we had. Mind you love the Alhambra now, doubt we would go for a GP now.

The early GC4P 2.0 diesel can tow 1500 kg (this is all from memory) whilst our 1.6 could only tow around 1100 if you didn't have the car fully loaded so that the gross train weight was not exceeded.
Our next car was a Galaxy 2.0 diesel auto which was a great tow car and it swallowed up all our kit including my bikes, a mobility scooter and our dog. I didn't like the fuel consumption much but that is the price you pay for having a very capable tow car. We liked the Alhambra but it was too dear for us at the time, it was much better equipped than the Galaxy which didn't have cruise control or privacy glass as standard equipment.

Santa-Fe, Sorento or Ssangyong Rexton, all do decent 7 seaters.
I thought it was only the very latest Rextons that were seven seaters.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
If you want full size seats the Sedonas not a bad shout
Easy to tow just about anything with

No issues towing the Pastiche 560 with the Mitsubishi Outlander, got 29mpg on motorway and felt better towing the slightly heavier van, if that makes sense😕

What's your secret carlwaynie? I get best 25 mpg from my outlander towing. And best 45mpg solo. I found my coachman towed better than my previous (and lighter) Bailey ranger 550/6. My Jeep Compass returned 28mpg towing.

Baileyjake,
Don't know really, that was on the motorway, it did then drop down on the A roads.
I did wonder whether doing 60 in 6th gear with the rev''s at 1500
Or doing 60 in 5th with the revs at 2000 would make much difference to fuel consumption .

Ah right, I saw 51 mpg on mine once, that was immediately solo after towing. Seems that towing does something to my car to make it more efficient after towing. Maybe it burns out the DPF? Car also seems more crisp and responsive. I think 60 in 5th reruns better MPG than 60 in 6th. I try to use cruise control when I can as a little too much on the throttle pedal sees the MPG bar graph disapear.

On my recent 60 mile trip along the A12 and A14 I found that my kia would pull ok in sixth at 60 but was much happier at 60 in fifth. tried both on cruise and off cruise and overall was happier in fifth. got aprox 29 mpg but not a very accurate test.
