Hi

Im looking for our first van and want something compact. Its for me on my own mostly but also with two young teenage kids.

Ive zero experience here so any advice appreciated. Ive been searching ebay etc and come up with vans such as the Sterckemann 370DD and the Elddis 304. I need 4 berths with separate beds for my kids.

Are there any other make/models I should be looking at. Absolute outisde budget is £10,000 but Id rather spend closer to £8000.

The first things to consider are the towing limits of your car and your licence. If you got your licence after 1997 you will be restricted to 3500 gross train weight.

If you don't know the towing weights for your car have a look in the V5 or on the weight plate on the car or post the car details on here and somebody will be able to help you.

Most caravans have 2 double beds which will limit your choice. We have had caravans with single beds at the front which convert to a double but these singles are often too short to lay on. Have a look at the Caravanfinder website which lists different layouts and will give you more of an idea of what you could be looking for.

Don't forget to budget for all the other equipment you may need including the towbar and possibly an awning.

Thanks Rob. Ive been driving since 1980 so no issue with my licence, and Ive got a van with a towing limit of 2.2t so I should be ok :-) Definitely finding the two double bed thing to be the limiter. The two caravans above seem to be the only ones with bunks. Will keep looking. Cheers
