I would like to purchase a 2 berth caravan, we would be towing with a BMW 320d which weights 2000kg, what is the maximumwweight of a caravan I can tow safely.
If you are working on the advice of a safe match of 85% for novices then you are looking for a caravan with an MTPLM of 1700 kgs.
You can do the check yourself by using an online percentage calculator.
That's easy to work out. 3500 minus 2000 equals 1500 so that would be the maximum weight (MTPLM) you would be able to tow legally which the match would be 75%. A Coachman Amara 450 2 berth with the end washroom would be in that category weighing in around 1350 kgs.

I conducted a check with my car and caravan using the above website and the results returned were a match of 80% and yet if I do my own calculation with the percentage calculator the result is 84% which I would consider is to be more the true figure. 4% weight wise is a big difference so I would take the information with a pinch of salt especially as they ask for a financial contribution of £2.50 at the bottom of the page. The percentage calculator can be used any time for free which is more accurate providing you enter the correct details.
