We have a Conway Cruiser, approx 900kg Max weight. We also want to be able to take two kayaks on the roof of the car. We like a car with a big, flat boot space. We only need 4 seats. Kids are 9 and 11, so starting to need leg room. Like being quite high up (so we can see over camper) but not so high that it's really hard to get kayaks on top. Want to spend about 10-12k Max for a used car. Oh, and when we're at home we drive short, slow trips on country lanes, so need a petrol car or a diesel that can cope with that (we had a Zafira diesel that blew up because we didn't give it enough exercise!!) Any ideas? Thanks.

Diesel Citroen Berlingo is ok, for £12k you will get almost new, go for 100bhp manual Feel model I would. Cit diesels don't have too many probs with DPF blocking. Provided you can manage 10 miles up a dual carriageway at 50mph once a month you are ok with short trips otherwise.

DPF probs on short runs have largely been overcome now & the lastest Euro6 diesels which current model Berl has use a different system with Adblue tank under bonnet.

My son has a C max 1.8 petrol and tows trailer and the kyaks on top of motor. As all three of them do kayaking there could be three at times.Buying petrol he got it from a dealer cheap and not very high mileage as it was an ex mobility owner who had used it to put wheel chair in back but only used it locally.Being petrol they are not in demand as much as diesels hence lower priced.

Echo the berlingo but mine is the Peugeot partner tepee version. 115bhp diesel. Absolutely love it.

Just so much room and so convenient to use. Nice and high, really comfy and quiet on long journeys. 100% reliable, nearly 50 to the gallon running round 55 on a run easily.

Honesty cannot see why anyone would want anything else.
