I currently drive a Mondeo, 2004 tdci, 130 PS. However it has got 190k on the clock, and despite new injectors and a new dmf, sounds a bit rough.

I have been offered a low mileage Passst 1.9 tdi a couple of years older but with fsh.

I know the 100ps Passat won't legally pull my 1450 kg van, but the 115 and 130ps variants will, so if it's a 100ps it's a no go anyway.

Assuming it's a 115 or a 130, how do they compare to the Mondeo. Bearing in mind 99% of my mileage is not towing?

You want to get the 130 Passat, it's got a max. tow of 1500kg. I've a 2004 with 150k on it and it still pulls like a train. Great on fuel and hauled the Challemger (1350kg) no problem at all.
Can't comment on a newer Mondeo, last one I had was 7 years ago.

I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I have a 2008 140 bhp Mondeo and thats great for towing, but the Passat is also a good car. Drive it and see if you can live with it.
