I own a 2015 2.0 diesel Skoda Octavia and wanted to know it's true kerbweight
Handbook = 1279 kg
V5 section g = 1330 kg
Actual weight at public weighbridge no driver,half tank of diesel, towbar no luggage or load = 1320 kg
So adding a driver at 75 kg = 1395 kg, which has to be in place to provide the dynamics for towing and is a much more accurate figure in my opinion.I hope this helps others
V5C includes 90% tank of fuel plus 75kg for driver, my 2012 V5C mass in service is 1,495kg. The handbook states the kerbweight includes this, however there is no reference in the handbook technical section to kerbweight only 'unloaded weight ready for work' which is 1,495kg!

Go with the figures on the plate at the bottom of the driver's side B post, as that is what the Police/DVSA would use.
The police aren't bothered about kerbweight, only whether you are overloaded, and have the right licence. They would weigh each axle of the car and van, checking these against the axle plate on car and the MTPLM on the door plate on the van, to check that neither is individually overloaded, and that combined, the outfit does not exceed the gross train weight specified by the car manufacturer, nor that allowed on your licence.
The figure the police go by is the towcars Gross Train Weight. However, from a safety viewpoint, the car's KW is the figure which should be taken and related to the caravan's MTPLM, or whatever it is.
And don't always take the weight on the V5C document as being accurate. My Sorento's is several hundreds of kgs out!
When the police do a licence and weight check they will check these things are legal ...
Vehicle plated GVW not exceeded
Trailer plated MAM/MTPLM not exceeded
GTW = actual weight of both together not exceeded
Vehicle towing capacity = actual weight towed not exceeded
Towbar max load not exceeded
Driving licence covers what is being driven/towed
They are not interested if the plated GVW + MAM/MTPLM weights exceeds GTW as that is not illegal
They are not interested if the plated trailer weight exceeds the towing capacity as that is not illegal
