We are considering buying a caravan after 7-8 years without one. Biggest change is our car, no more 4x4 we now own a Ford C-Max Ecoboost 123BHP. Which according to Practical Caravan:
The 1391kg kerbweight gives an 85% match figure of 1182kg, just below the 1200kg legal towing limit.
Do 4 berth caravans around this weight exist?
I'd rather not need to buy a new car as well.
We had a 2006 Bailey Ranger 460/4 with a fixed double bed and MTPLM of 1184 which we towed easily with a 1.6 diesel Focus Estate which had a max tow of 1200 kg. Older caravans tend to be lighter.
You will have a Gross Train weight for the car. This is the combined weight of the car and caravan as they are actually loaded and should not be exceeded.
If you have a lot in the car you may find the max tow limit is reduced to less than the 1200kg.
So after reading the comments and a bit of reflection.....we have decided to get another car. We'll be looking to spend 4-4.5k on a tow car. As it'll be my commute car, I'd prefer it to be Golf/Focus sized, but I'm aware that Passat/Mondeos are better. Can anyone recommend a diesel tow car for a Swift Charisma 555 sized caravan: MTPLM 1460 kg MIRO 1242 kg in our price range.
