Thinking about getting the 102hp version as i cant afford the next one up. Are they any good as my last vw was crud.any one tow with one your thoughts please. Thank you
Depends what your used to towing with and what weight you intend to tow.
The power maybe much less than another vehicle, but the gearing and top speed come into play.
One car may have 200bhp and be geared for over 160mph, where a 102bhp vehicle maybe geared for 100mph.
The amount of power and torque required will be much less.
Thats why some vehicles have a lower powered model in the range that appears to tow just as well as the more powerful version.
My current car is more powerful than the previous one, but when towing i still drop to the same gear as the old car because the gearing has changed also.
I looked at the vw T5 combi 4 motion and managed to get a demo with a tow bar fitted,I tow an adria at 1800 kgs and found the T5 very light in the back end, very unstable, and as i was looking to put dog cages in rear didn't think that there was enough weight to make it a comfortable and stable tow car. I eventually bought a hyundai i800 bus and removed rear seat, left 5 seats in and fitted cage in rear, added bonus was it has an air con unit in rear to keep dogs cool on hot days and as its 2350 kgs kerb weight tows like a dream with 168 bhp on tap
