On V5c:

G. mass in service = 1571
F.1 max permissable mass (exc m/c) = 2030

What does exc m/c mean?

So the total weight I can have in the car is 2030-1571=459kg??

Not a lot for a family of 5, infact I'm pretty sure we will go over that figure

459kg is nearly half a ton. It's a fair bit.

I was working a few things out re towing and was converting known body weights to lbs but not further again to kgs so my numbers were roughly 2x what they should of been.

Time to go to bed!

Its very easy to load over 500kg into a family sized car.

I thought the same i can carry over 500kg, but add in 4 passengers and their luggage and it didnt leave any room for my FIL's small mobility scooter.

You say your likely to go over that figure and if stopped then you risk your journey ending there and points/fine for an overloaded vehicle.

Thats the max figure, you cannot legally exceed it.

Agreed. The purpose of this exercise was to see where I need to be re; a caravan. We generally carry 4 plus a dog in the boot so I have roughly 200kg to play with in the car.

However it is my intention to get a weight of me plus car plus fuel; similar exercise with caravan and go from therr

You also need to consider the 'noseweight' that is included in the cars payload and could be 75-80kg, so not much left of the 200kg!
