Ive got a 318i and towing my adria with a mplm of 1200 kg is a scary experience the car is feels way too light . And the gearing is all wrong. Hope the deisel is better. Ive just got a new transit custom double cab in van and its superb room for bikes etc in back heaps of power and nice and heavy.
My 'van is 1420 Kg MTPLM and I used to use a Merc C220 Diesel (170bhp, 400Nm torque). It towed fine.
But - it's a single axle with no fixed bed and the car was 100Kg heavier than yours so I'm surprised that your caravan is as light as you say. I would check this out since many sites quote upwards of 1600Kg.
The engine and drivetrain would handle the load, but stability might be an issue at over 100%. Noseweight could be an issue too.
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.
The worst thing with my bmw is the gearing first and second ok ish third ummm and fourth sort of, fith if your on a salt flat six never! Cars are built today for super low emmisions / mpg ,caravans get heavier cars seem to get lighter. But mines a petrol i suspect the deisel will be better suited
