I am changing my car in November from an Antara to a Kia Sportage, what are the chances that I can use the same tow bar? or will I need a brand new one?
What makes you think that you can use a towbar from a Vauxhall transferred to a Kia?
The towball weight limit for the Antara is 150 kgs. and the one for the Sportage only 75 kgs. so there's a big difference there alone so they can't be identical.
The tow bar weight for the Kia is 100kg, but the Vauxhall is 75Kg, just wondered if the tow balls are the same or if they are vehicle specific, Sorry if I look thick, just a question really.
There are 3 different type of towballs which are a detachable, a swan-neck or a fixed flange (two 16 mm. mounting nuts and bolts) and although the fitments may differ the ball size is exactly the same (50 mm. diameter).
Are you referring to changing the complete towbar or just the towball as it sound a bit confusing?
The tow-BARS are definitely vehicle-specific, but tow-BALLS are not. Some caravan tow-hitches need a specific type of tow-ball, but many take an ordinary standard one. It may therefore depend more on the caravan which tow-ball you use.
The Sportage is probably the best car we have ever had. It tows really well. Ours is the previous model that only has an 80kg nose weight but it is fine for our van which is relatively light. It is also a really comfortable car and we never feel tired in it even when travelling long distances.
