That's the same weight as my van and I tow with a Volvo V50 D5 which is the 5 cylinder 2.4 diesel that Volvo install in their 4x4's. Economical when driving solo (up to 57 mpg.) but has 180 BHP with 258 Lbs/ft. engine torque. The kerbweight is 1568 kgs. which gives a match of around 84% with a caravan with an MTPLM of 1300 kgs.
I was recently enquiring about the V40 but the pulling power doesn't match to anywhere near to what I have now.
Thank you tango5 for reply. My present car ,a Toyota Avensis engine power 118 bhp and 206 ftlbs tows well. You have a great deal more power must be great to tow with.Looking at figures the 2 ltr Volvo engine looks good the 2.4 even better, I m concerned by the comment I have picked up that the rear suspension ,unless self levelling. is a bit soft. Do you know the nose weight of your van ? By the way like your van.

It's the towbar weight allowance on the car that you have to adhere to which on the V50 (all models) is 75 kgs. The noseweights on Coachman caravans can be a tad heavy but so you just have to juggle things around till you arrive at the required noseweight. Many caravanners don't check their noseweight so if it's on the heavy side then it is obvious it's going to put excess pressure on the vehicle's rear suspension whatever vehicle it be therefore I would dismiss the comments regarding soft rear suspension. I have had my V50 car for over 4 years and never encountered a problem with the rear suspension at all, however, the only down side is that the rear luggage compartment is smaller than some of it rivals of the same size.
If you require the vehicle specs for the V50 2.0 ltr. diesel then I have them if you need them and will post accordingly.
The Volvo V70 also has the same D5 engine I believe but a bigger car with more luggage space. Pre-2007 models have a towball weight limit of 75 kgs. but 2007 onwards is 90 kgs. so the later models look the better option regarding noseweight.
The V60 which was introduced in 2010 also has a towball weight limit of 90 kgs. so if you are looking for something a little newer and a bit more refined then this model may be better still.
