I'm currently looking at buying a SKODA Superb 2.0 TDI CR 140 SE 5dr without a tower fitted. Would I be able to fit a tow bar? And would the car be able to tow a 1996 BAILEY PAGEANT CHAMPAGNE caravan (1,247 kg MTPLM
985 kg MIRO)
You could have a tow bar fitted, but as the car will be CanBus equipped you need to buy the correct wiring kit and get the car reprogrammed after fitting.
The weights look fine.

Lovely thank you very much, will a tow specialist know how to reprogram it or do I need to take it to Skoda?
Thanks again
Depends who you use, but many now can.
Where are you?

a tow bar fitter will use a by-pass relay so it does not need reprogramed.dealer won't reprogram it if someone else fits the wiring.
There have been problems reported on the Skoda forums from people who have used the by-pass system, especially on the later models.
There is also the fact that using that system does not allow the car's stability control system to allow for the caravan and other systems are not able to be extended to the trailer.
Most of the reputable fitters now recommend using the proper loom, either from the manufacturer or a copy one.

Thanks guys I've emailed my local fitter to ask and the dealers just incase :) (from Wales btw) plus looks like the caravan I wanted has gone :(
I had my tow bar fitted by a fitter from South Wales and he failed to reprogramme the car. I ended up having to take it to my dealer in Swansea to get them to do it!
