Hi.
Does anyone know if its possible to tow a folding camper with a 2011 Mazda 3 sport ? Its a diesel 185 bhp and 2.2 litre.
The 2011 handbook says 'no towing', but as its possible to have a detachable towbar supplied and fitted, I was wandering if anyone has ever towed themselves?
Regards....
If the car is not Type Approved to tow, which sounds likely from your comment, then no you cannot tow with it.
You may also like to check whether the statutory weight plate fitted to the car says the same thing.
You could have a tow bar fitted but only use it for things like bike carriers.
If you were caught towing with it you risk prosecution for use of an invalid vehicle, plus no insurance and risk the car and trailer being destroyed.
Check spec of your specific model. If no max tow weight & no gross train weight is indicated then you cannot tow with it. A towbar will be available for other models but if towbar fitting is not permitted on that specific model it will be because design of rear end, ie low spoiler &/or lowered suspension mean that towbar cannot be fitted.
