Hi. Need some advice please. I have a 2012 Ford Focus 1596 cc petrol hatchback.
The V5c says maximum towable mass of trailer 700 kg braked and 635 kg unbraked.
But I've seen all sorts of other figures on line including a kerb weight of 1337?
I have been offered a Bucanner Elan 14 1991 2 Berth from a friend. The details I have found for that are maximum allowable weight 1090 kg.
On the Vehicle ID plate is says gross vehicle weight 1825 and gross train weight 2525.
Can anyone body tell me if this caravan has brakes and if my car will legally pull the caravan?

It also says the mass in service is 1323 on the V5 if that helps?

If your max.towing mass of the car is 700kg braked, then that is all you can tow.

So, the caravan is too heavy for the car, and just about every `van will be as well.

Plated gross train weight 2525kg - gross vehicle weight 1825kg = 700kg. As above that is all you can tow.

The caravan has brakes.

The car has low tow weight due to low powered petrol engine. It would not be suitable for towing more than 700kg. You need to get a diesel Focus for better towing performance.
