Hi all, I've searched the forums but can't seem to get an answer so here goes...
I purchased a maypole trailer last year (same as erde 122). Only been used for short journeys probably has only covered about 100 miles maximum. It's stored in the garage so it's dry and well looked after. I used it yesterday and the whole car was vibrating at 40-60mph. The tyres are good. Wouldn't think wheel bearings would go after 100miles. Any ideas? It has standard 8inch wheels on it. Could I fit slightly bigger 10inch wheels? Any benifit? I want to get rid of that horrible vibration!!! Many thanks for your time all,
I used an erde 122 every day (not really designed for that I know) and they eat wheel bearings.. I ended up buying new suspension units so I could fit the bigger wheels and tapered bearings.
You have to make up a new axel and do a bit of chopping and changing.. new mud guards and the like.
To be honest I think it would have been cheaper for me to sell it and buy a trailer with the bigger wheels.
It has to be something that's in motion as it is only evident at around 50 mph. which could be that the tyres are out of balance, therefore I would consider the easiest option first by taking off the wheels and taking them to a tyre depot and ask them to check the balancing. If they are running untrue then get them balanced and see if that cures the problem. If it's a wheel bearing it can usually be detected by feeling if the wheels are getting hot as friction causes heat which is distributed through the brake drum to the road wheels.
