We need to know the weights of the car and caravan to give any meaningful advice. We need the max weight (MTPLM) of the caravan, the kerb weight of the car, the towing limit of the car and do you have a post 1997 licence? Come back with some more information and we'll be able to help you.

The Charisma 535 has a mtplm of 1,322kg (check your caravan plate to confirm). To give you an idea, my caravan has a mtplm of 1,318kg, car kerbweight 1,495kg which gives a towing ratio of 88%. The combination can be towed on a 'B' driving licence, car GVW 2,095kg + caravan = 3,413kg so under 3,500kg.

As above give your weights.

There must be several different models of the caravan depending on the year of manufacture. There are lots of different variants on the Focus too, hatchback or estate, petrol or diesel, all with different weights and limits. Some Focus models can only tow 1200kg so without all the details we can only guess at the correct situation.

Hi everyone. I have had my caravan for a good few years now. It's a 2008 model. I tow it with a Kia Sorento but want to downsize my car if possible. I don't want to get rid of my caravan. I have the figures for caravan but wanted a 2 litre TDI auto focus around 2012 ish. Is there any way of attaching a photo on here ?

sorry but that doesn't answer the question really, did you pass your driving test after 1997? if so that puts a limit on things,

to attach photos you need to have a photobucket or similar account then you can just copy and paste the link for each photo

Thanks for the information, I have to go out now but I'll check the car specs and get back to you in a couple of hours.

According to Parkers a Focus 2.0 TDCi Titanium Powershift hatchback made between Feb 2011 and August 2013 has a kerbweight of 1461kg and a max tow of 1500kg.
This would give you a tow match around 91%.

Sorry if it sounded like we were asking a lot of questions but at the start of this thread we had no idea of the weight of your caravan or the model of Focus or your driving licence so couldn't answer your question.

You're welcome Helen.

We towed just under 1200kg with a 2013 1.6 diesel Focus estate and it was ok but could have done with a bit more power (and an auto gearbox) to make it a better towcar. We had previously towed with a Galaxy with the same engine and auto box that you are considering and that was a fantastic tow car. Our Focus was only 115 bhp and the 2.0 is 140 bhp so it should be pretty good for towing. Go for a Titanium model as that has cruise control which is great for towing long distances.
