Check the weight plate on the car. Renault often quote a max tow, probably 1300kg in your case, but if you read the small print you find this is with a driver and no luggage or passengers. Once you start loading the car you have to deduct that weight from the towing limit. We used to tow about 900kg with a 92 bhp diesel car and it was hard work at times, we needed more power, I certainly would not want to tow 1300 kg with only 86 bhp.
