Hello Folks,
For me its the time of year to renew my Breakdown cover. Again the question Mayday Premium ( The Caravan Club ) or RAC Arrival C&CC). This is what I found out today and even RAC Arrival said this question had never been asked.
Ok you might be like me a member of both the above and travel to many sites both CC and C&CC, Cls or Cs .
Mayday Premium covers you for a pre-booked trip, and offers Dual Recovery to but, and this is important if you breakdown on the way to a site which is not part of the Caravan Club network then they Will take you there, but be warned it is a one trip and there will be NO Dual recovery.

Astounded, I was, so when I asked this question to RAC Arrival , they said they had never been asked this before and after checking confirmed their service covers any camp-site whether Private, Caravan Club or Camping and caravan Club .
So there must be thousands of people out there who like me are in both clubs, perhaps they have never broken down. But its a bit worrying if this information is correct.

since when? mayday has always been a dual trip recovery regardless of what site you are on, including if you are on a c & CC site!

Dual Recovery

Premium UK and Roadside & Recovery options include our Dual Recovery cover, which means that a breakdown need not spoil your holiday. If your vehicle breaks down on the way to a pre-booked caravan site, then Mayday will get you, your car or motorhome and your touring caravan or trailer tent to site so you can still have your holiday. Your vehicle will then be taken to the nearest garage so that it can be repaired for the journey home. If that is not possible, Mayday will get you and your vehicles back home again after your holiday.

so just where does it state on that about it having to be a caravan club site?

Hello Correct, I read that, . Suggest you do as I do and phone them up, I was told by the advisor that the Dual Recovery option is not available if you are not on a CC Site. As stated if you break down they will take you SITE there but NOT back.?

I asked the advisor I was thinking about changing to Mayday and asked them what would happen if I was going to a NONE caravan Club Site and advised what I have stated above. The information given was from a Caravan Club Insurance advisor

Well I have not had the experience of breaking down and just thought people should check themselves as I and many others on here would agree with.

I sugest you call them again and speak to someone else in customer services at greenflag who run mayday, and then speak to the caravan club aswell, because the whole point of them having a contract with greenflag was to get the better rates and better terms

The simplest solution is to ring the Caravan Club yourself and put the scenario to them. You might be in for a shock.

here you go, I have asked the question via facebook to both greenflag and the caravan club

can you confirm regarding your mayday recovery with the caravan club that should we break down on the way to any site that was pre booked, not just a caravan club ran site, that you would recover us and take us there and then failing the repair return us back home, thanks

greenflag reply

Hi, if you have the Dual Recovery and Caravan and Trailer Cover, under the Mayday Recovery policy it does provide cover for while travelling to a pre-booked camp or caravan site, the Insured car cannot be repaired at the roadside as a result of an Insured Incident that has occurred at least a quarter of a mile from your Home, we will transport the Insured car and your caravan and Insured Persons to your camp or caravan site.
On arrival at the camp or caravan site you may request that we take you Home if your car cannot be fixed or, alternatively, you can choose to stay and continue your holiday.
If you choose to continue your holiday and the Insured car cannot be repaired locally, we'll collect the Insured Persons, the Insured car and your caravan from the caravan or camp site and return all to your Home at the end of your holiday. Hope this is of some help to you. Thanks, Craig

yes as i thought, can you just confirm that the site that you take us to do not have to be ran by the caravan club

Hi, I can confirm that the pre-booked camp or caravan site does not have to be run by the Caravan Club. Thanks, Craig

may be worrying if you get the wrong person on the end of the phone, who dont know about the full service offered when you do break down.

I think there was another thread on this earlier this year, and they did have problems with recovery from the site after the holiday?
Think it got resolved after a lot of ringing around, but thats the last thing you should be doing?

I did speak to someone in the caravan club customer services regarding this, and informed them that this is the info that green flag are giving out, and that perhaps this info needs to be reviewed by the caravan club and whoever is responsible for the contracts between then and greenflag on behalf of the members, she has passed it on to the right person

My RAC documents state that if i breakdown on the way to my campsite they will take me there and if the car cannot be repaired in time for my return journey they will take me home. They will also take my van to the storage compound and then take me home also.

Thats how the RAC sold it to me and the paperwork backs it up.

Did you call the correct number? Some of them do not know about the club recovery schemes.
