Hi

We're currently about to change our towcar from a VW Passat 2.0 Sport TDi. We are considering a Skoda Superb 2.0 TDi CR (140bhp) 4x4 DSG to tow our Lunar Quasar 525 (2011). Are there are members using this car ?
From what I've read online on various forums / Facebook it seems to be a good towcar but we want to be sure as it is a major purchase which will need to last us for at least the next 5 years.
We've put a deposit on one and hopefully test driving next week sometime.
If I've read correctly it has a Max Tow weight of 2000kg and a kerbweight of 1570kgs
Our caravan has a MTPLM of 1380kg but we would like to have the option to be able to tow a heavier van in the future.
Regards

Paul

The KW is the relevant figure, forget Skoda's towing limit.

It's actually quite a light car so if you're thinking of changing up within the lifetime of the car, you should maybe think of something heavier.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!

You will be OK, my Octavia Estate 4x4 2.0TDi (140) tows my caravan mtplm of 1,318kg with a mass in service of 1,495kg, tow ratio 88% same as what you have. Good engine and torque of 320nm at 1,750-2,500rpm, so pulls very well. The Haldex system is very good on muddy fields and snow; I have put some Vredestein Quatrac 5 all season tyres on, so they have a better grip. Haldex puts around 90% power to front wheels and 10% to rear, then transfers more power to rear as and when needed. Will also add, 4.5 years with lots of short runs and NO DPF problems, normal running keeps it clear and it does a programmed re gen every 400-600 miles.
My set up is lighter than yours but get around 33-37mpg towing depending on roads.

If new it will be a 150 tdi CR, Skoda started fitting the 150 in the last 6 months of the old version in 2015.
We towed ours with the 1.9 tdi version returned 36 towing, we now have a Yeti 4x4 140 tdi, even better, get up to 60 on the motorway and put cruse on and relax.
Since you already tow with the Passat, you will feel at home, and passengers will have more room plus the boot is bigger in the superb.
you could get a van of around 1500 kg max and still wont know its there

Thank you for all the replies, it sounds like it will be a good towcar, just waiting for the nod from the garage informing us that it's ready for a test drive. I've read that some Auto's need cooling if towing but generally for older models. This one is a '12' plate (140bhp) so not sure where to find out if it will need cooling

Before our current MkIII Superb we had a 61 plate 170 DSG estate and that was problem free. No additional cooling required. Towing a 1350kg van returned around 30mpg on a typical trip.
