Oh, I'm with you now😀 I'm Admin on a massive FB group, and If I'd got a quid for every time someone posted duff info, or I'd copied/pasted my emails to/from VOSA/DVSA, I'd be bloody loaded😂😂
We've got "old" licences, and I know the law, especially relating to ourselves. So I don't really have to get involved with post 1997 stuff. But, because of the FB group I've contacted VOSA to make sure the info we give is correct. Every year at the start of the towing season I dread all the questions, well not so much the questions as the incorrect answers. By about May I throw the towel in and say I'm never getting involved again. Until the next time.....
To get back on topic, the Passat we had was an excellent towcar. Very economical, we used to get 42 mpg towing our 1450kg Lunar. It was the 2.0 diesel SEL, 180bhp.

Hi Jo n Jon sorry to hear of your dilemma. We went from Bradford to Anglesey in the summer and car/caravan didn't seem excessively low at tow bar, that was fully loaded as well! Calor lite and various other bits n bob's in front locker, chest of drawers front end and a few clothes on the front seats. Caravan might have been a tad arse end up but nothing a few adjustments wouldn't of corrected.
I think best place to start (if you haven't already done so) is measure unladen nose weight and hopefully it's not over the 90kg max for the Passat.
Thanks nutkins, spring assitors getting fitted tomorrow. Collect caravan from minor repairs on sat, will measure its unladen nose weight while on the dealers flat forecourt. Can't understand why an unladen caravan would have an excessively high noseweight. If it is over 90kg then presumably when we load it we will have to shift heavy items to behind the axle to reduce the noseweight but thought you not supposed to have heavy items past the axle because of risk of snaking when towing? Thanks jo

Razor344 - nice one
Jo - ours is a 2015 2.0 TDI (148bhp) and we don't get a problem with the towbar height anything like you describe.
Suggest you check the noseweight first as Nutkins has advised.
Was your towbar factory fitted onto the car or was it added afterwards? If the latter, could it have been fitted at the wrong height?
It seems unlikely that the suspension could be excessively worn on a 64-plate car, unless it's been driven very heavily loaded and/or on rough roads for most of its life.
Thanks Sam amd rose, towbar was fitted afterwards, it is at correct legal height without anything attached. Problem is when the caravan is attached both when it is laden and unladen!!Spring assistors getting fitted tomorrow and will measure nose weight on sat, thanks, jo
