We had the 1.6 but we only towed a folding camper, the gearbox was fine but it's not the best auto box in the world at the best of times. The gear changes always felt rather jerky and nothing like as smooth as other automatics.
After the Picasso we had a Galaxy 2.0 diesel auto which had a much nicer gearbox and the whole car felt much more solid. We would love another Galaxy as it just got on and did the job without any problems.
