We had a 55 plate Mondeo estate, 2.2 diesel, I think it was 155 bhp. Excellent towcar, pulled our 1450 mtplm Lunar Lexon easily. Gross weight of the Mondeo was 2190kg. Averaged around 38 mpg when towing. Had no mechanical issues at all with it, it had done about 120k when we sold it. Only thing to be careful of, is that with a lot of Mondeos, the V5 gives a max towing capacity of 1800, whereas the VIN plate gives figures of gross weight 2190, gross train weight 3750, thus a technical max tow of 1560. I know that that figure can be increased, if the car isn't fully loaded. But, if we'd loaded the car to its max, then towed the 1800 shown on the V5, we'd have been 240kg over the gross train weight.
