Hi guys, can anyone clarify this for me ? I passes my test in 1998 and have just bought my first caravan, now until today I was under the impression that I could pull a caravan or trailer providing the combined weight did not exceed 3500kg. But after deciding to do a trailer course have been told I'll need to do the B+E test.
I've been told that the police or vosa will use max weights rather than what the actual train weight is.
So my car has a
kerb weight of 1645kg
Gross of 2290kg
Caravan 1100 unladen
Caravan 1350 Gross
So that would be 3640 total and illegal even though it might actually only way 3300 ? ? ?
Help anyone it's very confusing.
Hope this has gone in the right place as I'm new with this!
With that combination you will need to do a B+E test. If you want to tow a trailer over 750kg. then the combined MAM (maximum weight) of the car and trailer must not exceed 3500kg. The actual weights are irrelevant.
I went with jacks Driving school from newton acliffe, there's plenty about. Try and get one that will do a hourly rate, that way it may not cost as much depending on your skills. I did a two hour assessment last week and my instructor has put me straight in for the test. I'm doing 2 hours before also for a little practice. The hard bit is undoing all the bad driving habits you pick up over the years as 3/4 of the test is general driving.
