There is a lot of talk at present that diesel cars are going to be penalised for their pollutants. Talk of scrappage schemes, higher road tax, congestion charges etc. No real mention of lorries, buses, vans etc.
What are peoples thoughts ?
Regardless of you choice of vehicle - petrol / diesel / hybrid and electric eventually, you're always going to be shafted and seen as an easy 'cash cow'....

Even with new road tax rates for cars registered April onwards the first year tax rate will be cheaper for a diesel car than petrol version of same car with similar bhp. The diesel version will have better mpg than petrol version so cost less in fuel. So I'm failing to see how diesel cars are being penalised.
So what do we want then? No road tax, no fuel tax, no income tax & drive tracked vehicles between towns with no roads? What seems to escape most folks that tax revenues are required in order to provide services. If you think the services are bad then it is because of not enough tax revenue not too much.
The new road tax rates are quite fair. No increase for existing cars & 2yrs notice of the road tax changes. Why should zero emissions or low emissions pay no tax? They are still taking up road space.
The £450 road tax on cars over £40k is fair enough. Whatever one's motoring requirements there is a car under £40k available so a luxury car can be a choice & taxed accordingly.
Road tax in the Netherlands anybody? How about £500pa for average sized petrol car & £1400pa for diesel.
