wondering if anyone uses a series 1 volvo c70 convertible to tow with. by series 1 I mean 1999-2005.
the series 1 is based on the 850/series 1 v70 estate chassis so its quite a big and heavy car, around 1600kgs. unlike the newer metal folding roof c70 which is based on the ford focus chassis.
reason i'm asking is because I have a low mileage (40k) 2002 covertible that I'm considering using to tow my caravan this year instead of my usual tug. caravan is 1400kgs mptlm.
just wondering how people find towing with a soft top compared to a tin top in repect of body rigidity etc.
cheers
Shouldn't make a difference, though I had a C70 convertible on an 04 plate and found the scuttle-shake atrocious; this could conceivably affect the amount of grip the front wheels provide.
Mind you, it did have the most comfortable seats I've ever had in any car before or since.
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.

Ha Ha...
yes the scuttle shake is pretty bad. I have fitted the dealer front strut brace which makes a difference and also the towbar is known to considerably stiffen up the rear end as it braces the rear .
